UUK proposal ballot: 64% say yes

You will have seen the message from UCU HQ reporting the outcome of the ballot. Industrial action (strike action and action short of a strike) has now been suspended.

The proposals on which we were balloted are a remarkable shift from the original UUK position. They shifted because of the solid support and sacrifices of UCU members, because of the wonderful support from past and present students and because of wider distaste at highly paid University managers slashing the pensions of hard-working staff. In the face of such strong and united opposition UUK promised to support a panel to explore the valuation of the pension scheme, to protect the Defined Benefit Scheme, and to maintain comparable pension levels.

UCU St Andrews will continue to press for a fair and honourable pension settlement and to ensure the fair treatment of staff more generally. We look forward to seeing you at the rally and anti-casualisation event Weds 18 April, 12noon to 2pm, rally in Church Square, meeting in Psychology Old Library.
