Draft Agreement between UUK and UCU
The following has just been announced and there is general dismay at aspects of it; a three year arrangement, salary threshold of £42,000 and an accrual rate on 1/85th with a loss of the 1% match is just part of it.
Lowering the accrual rate to 1/85, from the current 1/75, means that anyone earning an annual salary up to the threshold as proposed, (i.e. £42K) will see the amount of pension earned for every year of service to go by 10% (in the case of an annual salary equal to the proposed threshold, £42K, the amount of pension earned for every year of service will go down from £560 to £494.2)
In other words, just the reduction of the accrual rate will lower the amount of pension earned henceforth within the DB component of the pension by 10%.
Please attend the picket lines and/or make your comments available to your Departmental Reps for forwarding to (President) Tom Jones who will take it to a branch briefing tomorrow in London.
