STOP THE BEDROOM TAX!

Stop The Bedroom Tax! UCU St Andrews are hosting an open meeting on Wednesday 1 May at 130pm in UCO School 1 Lecture Theatre.  The meeting is open to all staff and students. We are very fortunate to have been able to book Jack Ferguson to speak at the meeting.  Jack is the UNITE Community Organiser for Scotland and he is centrally involved in the campaign against the Bedroom Tax.

From 1 April 2013 people across the country will be charged a ‘Bedroom Tax’ because this government has decided their home has one or more spare bedrooms. Around 660,000 famililes will be hit, thousands will lose their homes – some of the worst affected will be carers, people with disabilities and army families. The Government’s impact assessment shows that those affected will lose an average of £14 a week. Housing association tenants are expected to lose £16 a week on average.
