The University and College Union at The University of St Andrews

Dispute 19-20

National Information re the current dispute is available at:

Local information and rules for engagement will be updated here as often as new information keeps in.

There will be picket lines on the days of the UCU strike (Monday Nov 25th, Week 10 through to Wednesday, Dec 4th, week 11). The main picket lines will be at the Gateway/ Medicine, College Gate/ St Salvator’s Quad/ Social Anthropology/ Younger Hall, St Mary’s Quad and Philosophy/ Classics/ St Katharine’s Lodge and English on the Scores. These will be staffed 8.30-10.30am.

Picket line activists are expected to be polite and professional through good humoured engagement and peaceful protest.

It is a personal decision whether union members wish to strike on any or all days, or work to action short of a strike, i.e. limit their workload and working hours. You do not have to tell your line manager if you are striking on a particular day, but you have to inform HR after the strike. However, the local committee does encourage you to inform your students as to which classes are cancelled and the reasons why.

Twitter and other forms of social media are expected to be used for information passing and/or for public debate. We wish to remind our members that public discourse does mandate difficult discussions which necessarily demand facts, opinions and vigorous debate. Personal abuse is not acceptable.
