If you have any problem at work it makes sense to have someone on your side. With the current restructuring and the threatened loss of hours, regradings and redundancies it makes even more sense. That’s why trade unions exist:
- to win a better deal for the workforce
- ensure you get a fair deal in all areas of your working life.
The more members we have, the more effective we can be.
A trade union provides support and representation for members on all work-related issues. As a union member you have access to specialist guidance from people experienced in dealing with workplace problems. Unions have their own legal advisors and highly trained negotiators to help you.
But it’s not just in times of uncertainty that unions matter–we negotiate to improve your pay and conditions all year round and are there for you at any time you are faced with injustice, injury or illness.
If you are not already a member, join one of the three unions recognised by the University. You can join online or contact your local representative by looking at the relevant Union details page.
If you are already a member, please encourage your colleagues to sign up. Alternatively, why not become more active in your union so you can help us represent members more effectively?
